visited a weird little town in the middle of nowhere, kansas. the town didnt have a name, nor did they have any building larger than four stories, except, a little bit outside of town, an enormous towering structure, the size of a skyscraper, involved in some kind of space thing. frankly the details were above me, i think it was some kind of special telescope? the thing loomed on the horizon of the town, always visible, enormous, full of strange tanks and scaffolding and facilities and white painted steel latticework and antennae.

but, anyways, it shut down years ago, and now it was supposed to be demolished. and the townspeople were upset about that, to have what was once a big part of their town's identity just erased like that. they were holding a "dont give up on space" campaign, trying to show how they werent JUST a (literal) no-name town, they had big things going on, that astronomy was part of their proud, small-town kansas heritage.

lots of ideas were floated around, but the most popular one was to preserve the external structure and turn the insides into some kind of combination of museum, restaurant, and shopping area. i hope it works out for them. dont give up on space!!
