we are reading the Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, and here are our no-plot-spoilers thoughts so far:

  • we are enjoying it a LOT more than the netflix series. we are kind of glad that the netflix series has basically nothing to do with this book because it means we get to experience the plot for the first time with no knowledge really of what's going to happen
  • the writing is so good and entrancing. because it's an old book we kind of expected it to be stuffy and hard to read, but it is a page-turner, the pacing is good, the characters are lovable, and the writing is easy to understand for the most part.
  • dear gods this book is extremely gay. we were vaguely aware that there were some gay elements in this book, but we really were not expecting just how gay this book is.
  • we've decided that we are going to imagine every character as furries.
    • doctor montague is a gray wolf with glasses and a bunch of shaggy fur on his neck that makes him look kind of bearded

    • elanor is a awkward calico cat with long wavy red hair and without much curves

    • theodora is a tall fox with very gay curly hair

    • luke is a polar bear with cute short curly brown hair
