learned that the reason some flutes (like the tin whistle) its possible to play an octave harder by blowing really hard, is because the higher air pressure is causing the resonating chamber to resonate at the next harmonic frequency more than the normal one. and what's that harmonic frequency? the next octave up!!

You can overblow harder to get even higher in the harmonic series! The instrument (at least my tin whistle) sounds progressively harsher with each jump, so I've never dared go farther than the octave + fifth harmonic when playing tunes.
