thinking about terminology for our lunar calendar system again
we have
- the morningmoons, slightly shorter than two weeks time at the start of the month, after the full moon but before the missing moon, when the moon is prominently in the late night to morning sky
- the ides, the roughly 3-day time in the middle of the month when the moon is too close to the sun and can't be observed, surrounding the dark moon/missing moon/"astronomical new moon"
- the eveningmoons (or evenmoons), the slightly shorter than two weeks time at the end of the month after the ides but before the full moon, when the moon is prominently in the afternoon/evening/early night sky
but this then desires a word for the full moon and the surrounding couple of days at the start and end of a month which are basically also full moon (but not an a"stronomical" full moon). and it feels like the word should be plural like the rest, because in my mind that full moo time is multi days. i've been thinking about "the looms" as a double meaning- it's a word that implies creation, a new month, but also implies something being large. it's called the looms cause that's when she looms, and it's called the ides because that's when she 'ides.
