writing alliterative verse (the old/middle english poetic form, not just poetry with alliteration in it) is super super hard. we feel like we are starting all over because it's such a different way of thinking about poetry and we can't produce poetically regular lines as fluidly as we can with say iambic tetrameter because we just haven't had the practice yet

It does get easier with practice, but I think it's always more demanding than some other forms. Although that does make it more satisfying to pull off, of course.

One of the things that has made it a little easier for me is getting used to using compound nouns, which can get you out of quite a lot of difficulties when you need a particular sound…
