the computer vision identification of an app like inaturalist can be a good starting point when i'm stuck on what a plant is, but it's not very useful for actually learning to identify plants, and that's a big frustration for me. it doesn't tell you what kinds of characteristics are diagnostic of the plant, it just shoves photographs at you and says here it might be one of these
getting a floral key has helped a whole lot, because these kinds of books give actual differential characteristics between similar looking species, but floral keys can be expensive (flora of the pacific northwest 2e was 80$)
