There's a handful of cultures which developed sign language instead, but in general, verbal language is way more dominant.
It seems like verbal language has the sociological advantage of being easier to have as a peripheral input/output while doing something else (for example, while using your hands to do a thing) and then, technology-wise, it's much simpler to record and play back as well (although it's funny that in our culture, audio and video recording evolved separately and only came together much later).
