it just occurred to me that pikachu is a species and ash's pikachu is just one of them
in my brain pikachu was filed under the same categorization as like, "sonic the hedgehog". just a little electric mouse named "pikachu", of which there is only one
it's like if 90% of people named their pet cats "cat" and the world's most famous cat was also just named "cat"
