also the ... what, levity attempts? that probably would've worked in a more traditional crime movie just turned my stomache; while i totally get that a 3.5 hour movie just about the heavy toll of white violence wouldn't have worked if the only tone was sorrow, i don't think that the way to do it was what ended up on screen.
i felt like the last act, where deniro was kind of channeling trump with the "they love me" schtick, raised my hackles in the same way an actblue text does.
