I'm gonna have to comment on this, because I just wrote a long ass post about it where I criticize fandom AND said I worked on some fan wiki, so I'm being doubly "attacked".
I like talking about the work of arts that changed me! That's why I make long ass post about Fallen London. And since no one read those (not that I blame them), I need to find group of people who also care about Fallen London. Hence, I end up in fandom. If you think that is childish... it's not that I would disagree, it's that it is important for me to remain childish in certain of my attitudes. I'm serious. I disagree that it prevent critical analysis or remove me from the real world. It is important to me to remain child-like in certain aspect, and grow up in others.
right - engaging w and critiquing media is cool and good, but the arbirtrary disregarding of how someone else is engaging with it that the "everyone is either an archivist or a fanfictioneer" person was doing (and then continuously doubling down on it) has me feeling like they need to either grow the fuck up/live-and-let-live or log the fuck off.
