i think the big thing that turned me off from The Witness was, in the Witness, the puzzles never felt like they were part of the world - they were all very contrived - so when you beat one you didn't get some anthropological insight, and instead were treated to the video form of a linkedin post.
also apparently you can make the submarine glitch/do extra loops, which suggests that they maybe made the original version of the sub puzzle in here but then made it do pathfinding, which, wow what a choice
