shout out to microsoft's horrible major-patch naming for windows 11: 23H2 looks like the name of a really bad strain of influenza and nothing else
shoutout to microsoft's perfectly sane version numbering system.
the latest release of Win11 23H2 is (i think): 10.0.22631.2506. so let's break it down:
- 10.0 - this is the NT version, it's completely unrelated to the OS version, or at least it was until they changed it from 6.3 to 10.0 for win10? but now it's still 10.0 because reasons?? (but it should actually be 10.1, or maybe 6.5, or maybe even 7.1?)
- 22631 - uhh so this used to be the daily build number, but now they change it arbitrarily to indicate like, a specific feature branch? i think???
- 2506 - but this was meant to identify a revision of the same thing!! and now it's more like the build number than the actual build number? what the fuck microsoft, you're using your own versioning scheme wrong!!
