i cleared Touhou 8 for the second time tonight, and gave 9 a spin afterwards too.
i think i could maybe get a 1cc on 8 if i keep practicing with it. i almost got close this time around with Yuyuko & Youmu, but ended up using two continues around the last couple stages. i really like the interactions between these two, they're fun. not sure which i like more out of those two or Reimu & Yukari..
i wanted to try and clear 8 with all 4 character sets before i moved onto 9, but i was feeling curious so i gave it a go.
its pretty fun! its cool to have something different like this to shake things up every now and then. the mashing hurts my thumb, but other than that i like the gameplay a decent bit. i cleared it on my first run through, though this game is a lot more lenient with extra lives and continues, i imagine because its so much more arcade-y.
i like all the new characters so far (i've seen Aya around quite a bit, and i think i've seen Eiki before, though Homachi is entirely new to me. i like her design), and the music is great too. Tewi and Eiki's themes in particular stand out to me here out of what i've heard.
from seeing gameplay of it, i wasn't sure if i'd be into 9's gameplay style or not, but i'm glad i tried it. i know Touhou 19 brings this style back, and with way more stuff - i'll be really curious to play that one once i get to it.
for now though, i'm looking forward to trying out the other characters in this over the next week or so! 9 is pretty different, but in a fun way.
