glad to answer this. for me, indie music is music by artists who are unsigned or signed to an indie record label. for my purposes, indie record labels are those that do business without the distribution or co-operation of the major record labels Universal (UMG), Sony (SME) and Warner (WMG). if that's a lot of anagrams to remember, don't worry bc they'll all consolidate into one big art-consuming monster within a decade or two :)
