God, I feel this in my bones. The quickest way to get me to turn off notifications for a thing is to lie about them or use them to push an ad at me.
My favourite thing about LinkedIn is how many dozens of DMs I have received and how literally all of of them are advertisements from randos I've never heard of.
This antifeature kept getting added to so many apps on my phone that I switched to GrapheneOS and only get apps from F-Droid now. Literally radicalized into running a third-party ROM to make the Mandatory Nightmare Rectangle shut up and stay shutted up
Throne did this from the jump with fake notifs like "we just posted a poll!" and "you should post your wishlist!" and dogg i haven't looked at that site in months
linkedin is particularly irritating with emails too, the damn thing is just constantly (sometimes several times a day) going "look at this random guy who has fuck all to do with the fields you've shown interest in!"
luckily i found the unsubscribe button; i should just delete my whole account considering that it turns out i'm basically incapable of employment anyways
It's very "we're squeezing out the extra value from this before everyone else fills it with junk too"
Like we're gonna have another good way of communication after already destroying regular mail & email like this
