"that's a library book you just dripped toxic sludge on!" she shouts at the creature. most people would fear for their lives face to face with a sludge monster, but she fears the librarian's disapproving look more than she fears death.
as the monster gets closer to her, time slows to a halt around her and she hears a voice in her head that is distinctly not hers. "it'll eat you and your backpack of books whole if you don't do something." the voice says, almost taunting her. she turns to run, but trips over her own shoelaces and collapses to the ground, and the voice returns. "perhaps there's a better option than that. I can help you fight it for a price." "what, do you want my soul or something?" she replies, scared. "the price is not your soul." the voice says calmly inside her head, clearly not wanting to let on the details of this Faustian bargain.
she looks back towards the monster and gives in. "I'll do it; I'll fight" she says, and as the thoughts form together into words, the contract is sealed and she transforms into a magical girl.
