like, the op1 pre-2019 price hike was expensive, but that price was still somewhat defensible though. there just literally wasn't any competition. (there still isn't imho).

the opz was exciting because i really thought they were going into a more utilitarian direction w/ prices that were adequate for that kinda gear. but the whole field lineup is just... a really tough pill to swallow. like i don't think it's super unreasonable to charge a teenage engineering tax for certain things because they're genuinely really good at making hardware that's fun and pleasant to use, but... selling a field recorder with arguably less utility than a zoom h4n at more than 7x the price... c'mon

i still really really appreciate their industrial design and let's be real, i'd own the entire field lineup if i had that kinda spending money, but those prices just aren't justifiable anymore like the op1 was lmao

in reply to @clip's post:

the computer case they made where you had to bend panels to construct it and all the screws and hardware were terrible is another example. the pocket operators are really neat but other than those its like "uhh"

don't underestimate the opz tbh, esp. with the i/o modules it can act as a really powerful little sequencer and the sound generation isn't half bad either. but yeah, all the stuff they've released under the field moniker should cost like half as much.
