I do not print things a whole lot and the things I print don't need to be high quality. I would mostly be printing knitting patterns and the occasional personal paper. A few years back my mom bought me an HP wireless printer, but uhhhh-- yeah-- I don't think I liked how much connection and information it needed to have so I stopped using it. And it's probably a clogged mess of ink but now since it's been at least a year since it was last used. I mostly go to the library to print stuff now, but it isn't always convenient (and isnt exactly private)

I just want the most barebones printer (with maybe a scanner) without feeling like I am signing the last bit of my personal information away.

Avoid HP like the plague. In the Sysadmin circle I'm in people generally like supporting Brother printers, and the one I set up this week was no frills and made it easy[^1] to only install the driver without their app thingamabob. I believe they're also pretty friendly with offbrand ink and some may even be resevoir style (where you squirt ink into integrated cartridges vs replacing the whole cartridge tank thingy)

When I was looking at models to recommend for the purchase it seemed like every color model had a scanner, but that might have just been due to my price range or other features consistently overlaping with it?

[^1:] you have to uncheck it during their driver install wizard, but at least it was there (looking at you, xerox copier driver package) and obvious if you were reading each pane in the process

I am thirding the recommendation for a Brother wireless laser printer! It got my husband through his master's and prints out knitting & sewing stuff very well. The duplex works great, too, if you get a model with it.

Bonus: drivers for Linux easily available, if you ever end up there!

I have a canon mx920 and I remember it being decently priced for the beast that it is. It has a scanning bed and also the ink refills I get from amzn for like $30 for 7 full refills of ink that lasts like 3 years it's ridiculously cheap. It also does borderless full bleed printing which I mean probably isn't as important to you but I got this printer when I was in college for graphic design and it's holding up sooooo well

i order my ink on the bezos site but it's from EZ Ink if you want to see if they carry refills for whatever printer you choose. ive never had issues with compatibility and it lasts a decent amount of time and is sooooooo cheap
