i wish more people talked about hoarding that isn't like.... the type of hoarding you would see on TV shows.
I'm listening to a podcast about decluttering and the host talks about how messy their house was, and how there was a bedroom that only functioned as a storage area, but insists that she wasn't a hoarder. Then later on she goes on to talk about how she was hitting up garage sales every week and buying stuff to resell on eBay, but realistically was only listing less than 25% of what she bought and holding onto the rest without any intent to use them. And so then when they went to move, she got a moving van that was more than double the recommended size for her house, and it was jam packed full, even with leaving almost all large furniture behind. (and apparently she filled this double sized U-Haul twice)
I say this because learning this year more about hoarding and that there are varying degrees and levels of hoarding was what kinda made me realize that 1.) our household had a problem but also 2.) it is a fixable problem with help
I know there is a lot more that goes into hoarding and the mental health aspect of it, but it's just interesting to see people so eager to claim "oh I'm messy, but I'm not one of those hoarders"
