sometimes I forgot the shit ass changes Etsy made and that a good chunk of what the shit ass "algorithm" will show you when you search on there isn't even handmade anymore
I will look for something on amazon and then be like "oh wait this is an item that I could buy handmade from a small artist instead" but then I go on Etsy and search and end up finding all the same items I just saw before :u

yes I know you can sell handmade on Amazon now, but I promise these are the mass produced items I see on Amazon/eBay/temu also being posted on Etsy as "handmade" and Etsy doesn't give a shit about integrity anymore ever since they went public

it's ridiculous!! I no longer shop on etsy with the expectation of finding something cool and handmade; when I find something neat that doesn't have obviously homegrown photos I'll check to see where else it is on the internet and lo and behold,,,

yeahhhh generally the only purchases I make on Etsy anymore are something I saw on another site first. I will search for enamel pins there, but I try and look at the seller's page first to try and discern if the person selling it is actually the artist.

Yeah genuinely I only buy on Etsy stuff that I can reasonably vet as handmade. There's even a ton of resale garbage being sold like it's eBay on there and it's labeled "vintage" but it's like, a 2023 furby in box or something

ITS SO ANNOYING its gone through some kind of redbubbleification.. i dont even really mind when some items arent handmade when its clear an artist custom ordered some products, but theres just SO much slop. theres slop pretending to be homemade. i still use the website a lot but its become significantly less of a unique place to buy artist and homemade goods.

Their search is so annoying. If you look up anything that doesn't have a lot of results they just flood the page with things that might be semi related to previous searches/buys you made. I still get dead by daylight fan merch recommended while searching for specific yarns even tho it's been 2 years since I bought anything dbd related.

Also yeah, I also still consider stuff like enamel pins being sold by the artist to be perfectly fine for Etsy.
