Draculaura
Cohost's #1 Draculaura Stan

my friend works at a "metaphysical supply store". They aren't into it themselves, but it's a decent job. But sometimes they share customer stories and it's so ???
Twice within a week they had customers coming in looking for Borax. Ya know, the washing detergent stuff. First person said they needed it for a "detox bath" the second person said their obgyn said it's perfectly fine to bath in to balance her ph. Like??? Borax???

anyways, my version of that today is someone came in and looked like she was in a hurry. she came up to me, while I am filling bread, and asks if we sell thieves essential oil. i told her I wasn't sure but I would walk her over to where we have some essential oils. we get there and we don't have what she needs and she asks "Do you know which of these essential oils are good for a sore throat?" and I wanted to die on the spot. i wanted to tell her 1.) i am literally a grocery store baker, what do I know but also 2.) "the cough and cold medicine is two aisles away :)"
but I was kinda just dumbfounded and didn't have the energy to start an issue so I just told her I didn't know and walked away

A friend of a friend is into essential oils and UGH. I have to refuse so much random snake oil that she just absolutely believes in with all her heart.

The only thing we agreed on was that honey was better for a coughing adult than almost anything non-prescription (actual studies back it up) and that peppermint oil was nice for stuffy noses. (Unfortunately those two overlap points mean she keeps trying to wedge in other stuff.)

I have and use essential oils. I have nothing against them, but I hate how people treat them? I occasionally use them in cleaners and salves I make for the scent, or I will occasionally use them in some hot water to steam my sinuses when I'm plugged up.
I tend to prefer honey and hot water when I have a mild cold/congestion over ~actual~ medicine. I have POTS and decongestants tend to mess with my BP and I am too cheap to buy the kind that doesn't mess with BP. (I buy generic and not a lot of places seem to have generic versions of the BP friendly cold meds)

I am totally cool with herbal and natural remedies, but I just think too many people take it too far? I know when mint tea and honey isn't going to help anymore and when I need to call my doctor for something more serious.
