goodbye.
and hello, to our new homes

sometimes i see references to some discourse apparently going on, but a lot of the time i have no idea what it's talking about. i think there's 2 factors at play here:

  1. the pages i follow maybe engage less on average with site discourse for whatever reason? would explain why i only see like one or two posts about some supposed "big discourse"
  2. timezone differences (i'm in east australia) means discourse happens while i'm sleeping, and i just dont backscroll my home feed in the mornings (would take way too long)

im probably not alone in this, and i wouldnt be surprised if that contributes a bit to discourse context collapse on this site. idk if there's anything that can be done about that. maybe something to contextualize in the way people respond to and participate in discourse here? i'm not sure, just felt like a moderately interesting observation to me

I think there is, yes. I've been looking at it as a two-pronged problem, where some of it is out of our hands until improvements are made to site features, but it'd be possible for users to adopt different posting habits, too, in theory.
