This update involved an intense amount of tweaking and reprogramming to fix a lot of long standing issues with the game.
The puzzle mode was fun to develop and making levels helped me fix a lot of delicate issues that were too tedious to fix before. I got sucked into redrawing a lot of graphics and micro-editing sound files to remove anything that grated my nerves.
However, feedback from the puzzle mode was sparse. So whilst it's nice to have and there's always some weirdo who loves your awkward work, it won't be replacing the original mode of play.
The new dice coin might be harder than I was planning for. Dice blocks are based on chocolate from Candy Crush, you have to match next to them to clear them. But being blocks in Six Match means they have great utility to shift whole rows of coins. The dice coins are swappable dice blocks, making them far more difficult to remove. Regardless they're a huge improvement over the confusing and deprecated skull mechanic - a feature that came early in development and justified its stay on those grounds alone.
Original mode players should enjoy the new design of the help button. Whilst it's still frankly quite weird as a feature, it serves a better support role being present on screen at all times. In playtesting I was making my way to what I thought would lead to a match and then the help button popped up with a bomb. Thanks help button. Trying to keep it off-screen made it feel like it was taunting you, now it's more like your buddy. It even has a special state for when you have no charges and no match possible, letting players know precisely when to quit.
Hopefully this quality of life update should keep it stable for a few more years and allow new players to jump in with less confusion.
