same as last week, we’ve got some Big stuff in progress that will be landing soon so there’s less than you might expect to see here.

• we’re pleased to announce that we got bought by Yahoo, in some definitely real news.
• you can now report posts for violating our terms of service — but our terms of service aren’t final yet, so you can report them for other stuff right now.
• you now get notified when someone shares your posts on the notifications feed!
• the notifications feed now also has one of those little pop-up eggs that tells you how many new notifications you’re trying to ignore!

we started on a couple big things this week that should be landing soon, so the list of things that launched since last tuesday is fairly short.

• notifications of comments on your posts and in reply to your comments
  • and of your own comments, if they fell into one of those categories (we’ll take a look at that one soon)
• initial bits of custom emoji support, ft.
  • so... chunks, huh?
• various improvements to the attachment lightbox
• nice error pages like a fancy grown-up web site (aidan’s second branch! please clap); check em out at https://cohost.org/rc/404, more varieties coming soon for different types of errors
• minor performance improvements

another week in the posting mines is behind us. we shipped a LOT of small things and a few big things! nothing but excitement here at cohost.

• attachment lightboxes!
  • you can now see all the images in a post AT FULL SIZE!
  • please note this currently only applies to images uploaded through the normal flow and NOT for images added via html to the main post body. this won’t change until we make larger changes to image uploads overall (such as: allowing them outside the top of the post) so please don’t report it as a bug.
• comment threads no longer get detached and split for shares
  • you can also see the comment threads associated with the shared posts!
  • we’re working on refining the UX around this after some reports that the current implementation is kind of confusing. keep an eye out for more there.
• shared posts now have timestamps next to them that link to the post!
• fixed the way comment threads are indented on mobile devices

it’s already been 6 weeks somehow! thank you all for being here, we hope you’re still enjoying your time on cohost. this week we fixed a bunch of bugs, improved our logging, and also made the dashboard FIVE TIMES FASTER THAN IT WAS! here’s a summary:

• fixed a bug where the notification feed could 500 under a very specific set of circumstances
• shipped dashboard pagination! we only show you 20 posts (give or take) at a time now, but everything is MUCH FASTER as a result!
  • last week we said pagination “should help page load times somewhat.” this was a serious underestimation.
