as people are getting punished for wearing keffiyehs right now, i suddenly remembered that this is not the name we knew of this garment.

at our place, it was арафатка aka arafatka and this name come directly from people seeing Yasser Arafat wearing keffiyehs on tv during the first intifada. also it somehow just became a fashion accessory, specifically the black and white one. and people just wore it for funsies and nobody really spoke of the origins of the item or the name or else.

that’s why we research things and read about them i guess. and support people making keffiyehs in Palestine. and donate

Yeah, same. Was gifted one several years ago, but I am pretty sure it came from a military surplus store and person who was gifting it out of good intentions wasn't really thinking of the anti-Muslim rhetoric and anti-immigrant/anti-refugee sentiments amongst the far-right who buy tactical gear.

Will have to buy an authentic keffiyeh.
