as much as i constantly want to just cut the knot with terrible takes and rhetoric and go “no, shut the fuck up, you’re wrong, that’s not how that works” and not even entertain it, i have to begrudgingly admit that that’s not going to help absolutely anything and that as annoying as all this philosophical nonsense is, we still have to do it in order to understand and deal with the actual mechanisms of the argument, because just going with and appealing to what seems sensible and obvious is how you end up with a breed of conservatism
