i think there’s something really oddly charming about those old videogame skyboxes of huge environments that don’t move, before they started using live-rendered 3D for the skyboxes. it really just makes the environment feel utterly fucking vast, moreso than the “better” skyboxes, and it’s a really underrated effect. and while i think parallax generally looks better in 2D, a similar effect can work there too, which is why death egg in sonic 3 feels so HUGE
