something very interesting about the geno route in undertale that i’ve never seen anyone talk about is the persistent emphasis of the idea that the protagonist/player is no longer human, especially considering the narrative weight of “humans” and “monsters” in the rest of it

You have to let your feeling of temptation - your "demon" - take control of you to actually complete the genocide route. That feeling - that demon - being "Chara" (or rather whatever your name is that you're meant to put in). I like the (almost?) epitome of this when Asgore is all "What kind of monster are you?" with genuine confusion in his tone lol. To the game world it is now most definitely you who is the scary threat, and to you you've lost yourself completely to "Chara"
there are SO many good moments in geno but i think that asgore line has to be one of the best. the fuckin MEANINGS packed into it AAGHH
i had the opposite read, which is to say:
one of the prevailing themes of undertale is “humans are the real monsters” and the genocide route makes the protagonist more human
