i think a lot of people seem to (have been trained to) think that if you say something with enough sternness, enough moral righteousness, and/or you Speak Properly and Well when you say it, then that makes you automatically right. present yourself authoritatively and you become an Authority.
this callout post doesn’t hold any water, but they speak like they know what they’re talking about. and all your friends, everyone you hear talking about it treats it as gospel. it invokes ideas and actions we find Disgusting, with vivid, traumatizing moral imagery. going against it would be like defending those things. and you don’t want to sound like you’re doing that, hm? like you’re one of them.
and thus the vicious cycle continues.
