Unlike us, not all clowns were created equal!

At the top of the heap, we have the classic White Clown. This is the nobility of the clown world, a member of the ruling class. If you see a group of clowns, try to spot the one giving orders. It will usually be one with a white face and neck, with some red and black features painted on top.

At the bottom of the hierarchy, we have the Character clown. With their flesh-colored makeup and five o'clock shadow, these are working-class clowns. Some are even hobos or tramps, though some experts regard those clowns to be a separate class altogether.

Finally, in between we have the Auguste Clown, a member of the Clown Middle Class. Note the mix of white and flesh colored makeup! The Auguste wishes they could ascend to the rank of White Clown, but never will. They usually serve as backup to the White Clown in making sure that the Character Clown properly follows orders. However, there HAVE been cases observed in which the Auguste Clown and Character Clown work together to deliver some much-needed comeuppance to their White Clown masters.

And that, my friends, is the Hierarchy of Clowns! Once learned, this knowledge can never be forgotten! Have a nice day!
