ive noticed something interesting with japanese music, which is that a lot of songs seem to have two different sections that have functions similar to a chorus, with one more closely fitting it structurally in that it’s the repeating emotional core of the song, but there’s also a separate repeating section that’s more “catchy” and is usually instrumental instead of using lyrics. and one of the interesting things about this is sometimes the instrumental one is used where the first chorus would be structurally, and then there’s another verse, and THEN it hits that much harder when the proper chorus drops. but also sometimes it goes after the main chorus and it feels like a transition back to the verse
rolling girl by wowaka is a really good example of the kind of thing i mean and you can also kinda hear it in lost one’s weeping by neru and the post-chorus use is pretty apparent in lagtrain by inabakumori
