every time I'm reminded of In The Valley of Gods and how that was supposed to be the next Campo Santo game I feel sad and frustrated with Valve. We could've had a really cool history themed narrative game with I think two black woman protagonists with the writing and (presumably) voice acting quality Firewatch had but everything just fell apart because Campo Santo got absorbed by Valve and devs got pulled to work on other projects like Half Life Alyx and over the years leads and others involved with In The Valley of Gods just left the company so the game's never coming out despite what the steam page says (which someone told me is probably a bug)

It looks like it could've been really interesting, I'd love to read some outline of what the story was gonna be like someday a la Epistle 3 or something. The focus of the trailer was really Zora and her hair, plus their gorgeous environment design and lighting. I wanna know more about the woman you'd play as, Rashida, more about what's going on between them and why they're exploring ancient egyptian architecture in the 1920s. At least we got some good blog posts... [checks notes] 5 years ago about Zora's hair, some cool shader and VFX stuff and the development of the trailer too. I shared some of the images from the hair blog post below cause I think they're cool. I'm not black so trust someone who is on this over me but I think they were doing some good stuff with rendering black hair in a stylized way.

3D model of Zora from In The Valley of Gods, the model is showcasing her hair.

gif of Zora from In The Valley of Gods, it shows her swinging her head and how her fair follows the movement. there's a lighter by her showing how lighting affects the hair as it moves.
