if youre a gundam liker you should watch it. they ask "what if a classic One Year War-like escalated further and ended in The Worst Way" and then went and made the directly post-apocalyptic gundam show (as opposed to the more distant disasters of, say, Post-Disaster or the Correct Century), and also one of the most fun and earnest and optimistic gundam shows without ever1 totally betraying the vibe.

the main characters are a lot of fun as a group (especially main boy Garrod Ran! who is goofy and friendly and lovable but also shrewd and clever and generally intelligent) and the first half-or-so of the show has this really good adventure-of-the-week vibe where you follow the gang's travels through the wasteland seeing how the world's been impacted by the war, and what it's like to live in what's been left behind. the back half then digs more into the remnants of the higher-ups from both sides of the original war trying desperately to restart it because they refuse to rest until there is An Ultimate Winner because this is the only world they know, as well as the concept of the Newtype as a political tool and how both ends of that long-dead conflict attempt to exploit those who would be called Newtypes to their own ends. it gets a little heavy-handed and unsubtle about it sure but i do really feel like it adds to the vibe honestly? just the kind of show Gundam X is.

also... Jamil Neate is the best Not!Amuro actually. instead of languishing forever in Being That One Pilot and looking like he's 14 for the rest of his life, his ass BURNED OUT HARD and got TRAUMA FROM ROBOT PILOTING and became a GROUND PIRATE instead and he got TALL and WIDE and HOT. he may not literally be a father but to me he is Gundam's greatest DILF hands down

ah yeah also theres totally lesbians. Toniya x Ennil forever. they go on a fucking date and think about each other and at the end of the series they ditch their boyfriends who are totally gay for each other i swear and they ride off into the sunset together. you can't tell me they aren't.

  1. yes. even the psychic dolphins arc. i am a diehard psychic dolphins arc defender, it is gundam x at its peak Fun Adventure Showness and deeply important for that

It's almost forty episodes of arguing about Newtypes and by implication the entire legacy of Gundam, this show rocks
