Bicentennial Man is not about how awesome it is to be a robot. If Spielberg's Artificial Intelligence is about anything, it's sure not how computers are so good at thinking!
Now a lot of the people pushing "AI" right now are grifters or capitalists who see a way to casualise more labour. But I think there's a lot of true believers out there who saw Bladerunner and thought it was about how awesome it is to make thinking robots.
