so.. hold on. locked accounts can comment on posts, and you can't see the comment unless you follow that locked account?? so you can just have phantom comments on posts? you could also, theoretically, have a load of hate comments you can't see. like there could be an entire breakdown of why someone thinks you're a monumental bellend and its hidden from you?

On the left is an unsuspecting user witnessing a phantom comment on their post.

On the right is the truth revealed: someone has blocked OP, and is still able to leave hate comments. This hate comment is invisible to OP, but visible to everyone else as the comment is left by a public account.

EDIT: i said this in a later repost but if you didnt see it this has already recently been reported on the support forum

ah, the good old private quote retweet, but reinvented. the more toxic-leaning communities on the bird app loved those. Bad Number Go Up is certainly one way to make your platform worse lol

(genuinely think this was an oversight tho, most people don't have enough brainworms to even know what a PQRT is lol)

well to be fair upon inspection this is also how twitter works (i just blocked a pornbot, left a reply, then viewed the pornbot's tweet on a second account and it was visible)

i think the issue is partly attitude. twitter is twitter - people don't read the replies because we all know not to engage with randoms sending hate. PLUS if there's hateful replies, twitter tends to hide them below the cut. on cohost, if i see a post has comments, i click to read them and see the discussion! plus i still think that's a dumb thing for twitter to do.
