I read a tip to keep an extra water cup as a decoy. you fill the decoy cup all the way, but don't fill you paintbrush washing cups all the way. Alessa went for the decoy cup immediately and made the biggest mess while staring at me the entire time.

their water dish is 10 feet away but every time I paint I constantly have to keep my eye on the 3 brats to make sure they don't dunk their heads in the dirty water!!!
i think next time I paint I'm gonna have an extra cup. like fill my two paint cups not quite full, but then have the decoy cup all the way full and see if they will just go for that instead bc I really don't think I'll be successful in teaching them not to drink from the cup
i did that too with a cat of mine, i used to have jars for my water and i added another one for her because she kept trying to drink in it. funny enough, it was the only place that wasnt one of our glass that she wanted to drink in! i read that cats will get interested with objects that we often use, hence why she went for the pots i assume!
it seems successful so far! I have a water dish right outside my room (where I paint), so they have water nearby if they really need it, but of course they just want to be into what I am doing lol
