my packing for the last trip was extremely tight and didn't leave any room for rain gear or more than 1 day of food so i picked up a couple of these dry bags to strap to my fork and now i'll have almost too much space!
i think i'm going to move my tent/sleeping pad/pillow to the dry bags and use the handlebar bag for food and raingear. the only addition to my gear list is raingear so i don't think i'm giving into the temptation to overpack, just opening things up for multi-night trips
also: i've seen people online confidently assert that you shouldn't pack your tent smaller than the bag it came in. i'm pretty sure that's BS, this tent compresses down a lot and so far it hasn't hurt anything. sure it's not a 'compressible material' but that doesn't change that there's a lot of air between folds that you can squeeze out if you take the poles out. who knows, maybe it'll burst into flame, we'll see
