playing civ 6 has been fun but it also has me yearning for alpha centauri, which for me is a 4x game that still has not been topped. might have to play that next, looks like there are some balance/bugfix mods that might be fun to try

I honestly really enjoyed Beyond Earth when it launched, but it was definitely a faded facsimile of Alpha Centauri rather than what I really wanted, a refresh of the experience I had playing AC as a teenager.
There's nothing that's quite captured the feeling of awe I had realising that every faction was entirely viable and offered a legitimately different set of strategies, and exploring those strategies under my own steam.
every 4x i play i eventually end up yearning for my teen experience playing alpha centauri. for me it was the effort they put into realizing the world, i love story and the little voice acted quotes for all the research and projects
