16x16 2-frame bounce animation of a flygon with rainbow wings january 2021, first art of me from when i started using my phone to draw...
and june 2023, most recent design update... still flygon, still cute, but a lot's changed! wings are optional (and a completely different design), i've got some neck fluff, i've got a collar, i'm a bit rounder... things are good.

i've also been meaning to update my other sona form's design and use that a little more, but haven't gotten around to it yet...

(the little animated bouncing one at the start of the post is from october 2020!)

So, I kind of need three here to fully explain the history.

1: The first creature I used to represent myself on the internet was Mesg! Specifically this picture of Mesg. They originated as a jack-o-lantern carving I liked and transformed into a profile pic, sort of with "mascot" intent rather than "sona" intent. They weren't me, but they were communicating all the messages I wrote and were the one people interacted with before that gets relayed back to me, was the lore at the time (lore that existed only in my head). Still, they remained my profile picture for at least a year, possibly more (which is a long time since I only started being socially active on the internet like 3-4 years ago...) I mostly stopped using them because I kept giving them more and more lore and wanted to use them in stories and it started to feel like they worked worse and worse as a stand-in over time...

2: This was my first attempt at drawing a fursona, as I'd call it. ...Sort of. I think I half wanted this creature to be a sona, but also I think I was planning to give it plausible deniability lore because I was sort of not confident being explicitly a furry (although I was obviously a furry anyway)... I knew way ahead of time that my sona would be a bat and sheep/ram hybrid, because I wanted to make a "cool new design" thing that wasn't "just" an animal (an opinion I no longer hold strongly, but I do still like being creative with character designs anyway...) Of course, my art and design skills were... not very good at the time, and I got discouraged by how little the design felt like me on my first attempt that it was months later until I really figured out battanram's design.

3: Battanram! Calling "battanram" my "current" sona is a little weird because I cycle through 5 whole sonas regularly, but still, they're my main one! Even this reference picture is a little outdated though, I think... I've been putting them in clothes more (mostly shawls), and adjusted the base of the horns to be on the back of the head, in more recent pictures but... I haven't actually drawn a full-body picture of them in a while. I wonder if anyone follows me and doesn't realize battanram is half sheep because of how bat-like their head is...

So i only started having a fursona somewhat recently, back in 2018 (although i guess it's already been 5 years since huh...)
someone i was getting to know was trying to help pick out a fursona for me since i wasn't sure what animal i would be and we settled on a mole. I thought he was really cute at the time and I still do but I ended up not really resonating with him much.
It wasn't until sometime after I made my birb bros for dnd, maybe like late 2020 or so that I realized "oh yeah, i really love birds, especially corvids so why not draw myself the same way I do kuma and tahi?" and it pretty much stuck.
