My Situation & You: A Primer

I am currently an autistic, disabled, trans-nonbinary, otherkin individual living in the southern-Midwestern US. Since the start of 2020, I have been unable to work, and fighting the US SSA to receive disability income. This has not been going well, for I and others alike. — Atop of finances, I also struggle with proper dental care, home care, and other issues which exacerbate matters.

Likewise, my equally neurodivergent boyfriend has been struggling with employment. He is unable to work, unemployed, and dealing with mental decline, affecting his executive function. He also struggles with finances, and with other disabilities of his own which impacts his own ability to function.

Regularly, I will be posting requests for mutual aid to pay for monthly expenses, such as rent, phone, and internet, as a result. I don't like having to do this; In a just world I would not have to; but I none the less have little else in the way of options.

I understand this is not favorable to many; Usually the hope is that mutual aid is temporary. That the systems in place to support people like us, long term, would kick in and begin supporting us. However, due to the rapidly declining state of politics and the years of built up decay within government, this is not, and does not look likely to ever be, the case.

As such, if you are reading this, I ask for understanding.

If you live in the US, look for your local PHA (Public Housing Authority), and ask them if they have any income based housing available.

https://resources.hud.gov can help locate these in your area — You want to select "Find affordable housing opportunities" then input your city, state. Afterwards, look for purple (Low Income Tax Credit) or Orange (Multifamily Assisted) properties.

It should also locate your PHA if you have one.

That's unfortunate. :(

They're the best thing I have for accepting international payments but I know requiring a Twitch account is annoying, and with the way they process payments some banking institutions and card providers may not allow you to use them to pay (e.g International transaction restrictions, which only sometimes can be lifted).

I got some decent help via Cash App today so I'm better off than before (still not 100% there for this month but a lot closer), so thank you for trying anyways! 🤍

I'm using my NZ bank card which doesn't have restrictions, and yet it got bounced. I don't have any other option, so... yeah. I do have some noticeable money in ethereum (that i've been using in the past to purchase DIY estrogen), so... maybe that's possible to try if you can handle moving money outta ethereum?

I don't really have a way to accept that, sorry.

And in my experience it can really depend on how the transaction is processed — Just because a payment processor supports international payments doesn't mean that they process them in an "international way".

Even if your bank does support international transactions, sometimes they might block a transaction for being suspicious or unusual when it's international. I tried using Square to accept money from a friend a few years ago and ran into the same issue — they had enabled international transactions on their card but the payment was denied by their bank.
