So I had a 300 month charge that was put on me by a collections agency last year for very old debt. Last month I was promised by the agency that payments were completed and there would be no charges for it anymore. I celebrated because yay, debt cleared!

Today they changed me again, taking my 200 down to -111. I have 5 pending charges on my account and if they go through before I get back into the positives that’s gonna be hundreds of dollars of overdraft fees.

I’m gonna be driving delivery all day to try to make up the money, but 111 is more money than I’ve ever made in a single day. If you are capable of giving any amount at all, it would be immensely appreciated.

a very very important question from someone with a little bit of knowledge on this sort of thing: Does the agency have a legal assignment regarding the debt, with you?
Do they ensure they have identified you at the beginning of phone calls, before discussing personal financial info?
(if no legal was done by them) Did they have your authorization to keep your payment info in their files?
Is it possible to check with them if these two payments are different debts entirely/follow up on why you were told it was paid in full previously?

There's a lot of regulation that debt collectors have to be under, and this just puts one or two flags up for me. There might be a little more recourse for you against them, if they bungled something. BUT I don't want to say they did, yet, just in case.
