Until a friend mentioned it, I didn't know that Mac OS 9 (perhaps older versions as well) had stereo UI sounds. As in, if you move/close a window on the left of the display it sounds in your left ear. It's bonkers, take a listen

god yes, and the fact that apple platinum had such pleasantly crispy sounds makes me miss the era when UI sounds were in vogue and that everything had a sound event associated with it.
nowadays windows won't even make a noise when it boots, let alone let you choose what that noise is. and i could swear i heard that apple once again removed startup chimes on recent models...
They re-added the startup chimes on later models! I want to say like 2-3 years ago around the Apple Silicon transition?
Too many sounds, I really don't need my general computing to sound like I'm using KidPix.
it's crazy bc apple tv also has positional sounds and it makes me so happy whenever i hear them. its such a small but wonderful touch
