I went on a weekend trip because I wanted to go be in the mountains for a bit, and do other things. Doing so also made for a good time to take about 500 pictures with my new camera, a Nikon Z5, and really put it through its paces.
First, I did a little bit of hiking at a municipal park (I think?) known as Pandapas Pond. The pond is artificial (there's only one natural lake left in Virginia) but seems to have been around long enough to have a lot of ecological growth. The trail I hiked went from where the pond was at the bottom of a valley to the top ridge line of the mountain next to it. I was hoping there would be some kind of overlook with a view of the town I was staying at, but there didn't seem to be one. Although it might be possible to fake it in the winter when there aren't any leaves.
