In the early 80s, the demand for more energy-efficient electric lights was on the rise. After a protracted development starting in the 1973 energy crisis, General Electric's Halarc Electronic effort to develop a miniature metal halide lamp to replace incandescents bore fruit in 1981, producing a lamp with high luminous efficiency, good color rendering, and "instant" restart thanks to the incandescent filament (also used as an inductor for the ballast). It was designed to be the technologically advanced future of lighting.

It almost beat the markedly superior Philips SL, the first successful compact fluorescent bulb, to market in 1981. It didn't, though, and it sucked more than CFLs, in different ways, rendering it a complete failure (discontinued in 1983), with the exception of its arc tube technology. It's mostly interesting now because it's something that could have happened but didn't, and because it looks weird, is designed weird, and behaves weird compared to what we're used to.

This post is in companion to future posts as a primer to my current living conditions

My Situation & You: A Primer

I am currently an autistic, disabled, trans-nonbinary, otherkin individual living in the southern-Midwestern US. Since the start of 2020, I have been unable to work, and fighting the US SSA to receive disability income. This has not been going well, for I and others alike. — Atop of finances, I also struggle with proper dental care, home care, and other issues which exacerbate matters.

Likewise, my equally neurodivergent boyfriend has been struggling with employment. He is unable to work, unemployed, and dealing with mental decline, affecting his executive function. He also struggles with finances, and with other disabilities of his own which impacts his own ability to function.

Regularly, I will be posting requests for mutual aid to pay for monthly expenses, such as rent, phone, and internet, as a result. I don't like having to do this; In a just world I would not have to; but I none the less have little else in the way of options.

I understand this is not favorable to many; Usually the hope is that mutual aid is temporary. That the systems in place to support people like us, long term, would kick in and begin supporting us. However, due to the rapidly declining state of politics and the years of built up decay within government, this is not, and does not look likely to ever be, the case.

As such, if you are reading this, I ask for understanding.

November's Expenses [ COMPLETE ]

Time Sensitive

Original Post

Things We Need

Rent: $50
  • We Have the suspended rent set aside for August - October + November, but we need December's rent.
  • Phone: $150
  • Cost of our 2 phone lines + 2 phones
  • Internet: $140
  • We owe this by the end of the month, and are behind a month.
  • Household Items: $100+
  • Cleaning supplies, disposable plates, etc. — We are almost out of toilet paper, and we need cleaning supplies to clean our apartment because we've been struggling to pass inspections. Costs have also gone up, and with Kaoru being sick all the time we are basically a fully disabled household, meaning more money spent on disposable products...
  • Misc: $75~
  • General expenses not covered by the above. May fluctuate by the month. Includes things such as grocery delivery fees, storage services, ride fares, etc.
  • Funding Status

    650$ $515

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! ♡

    Current Status

Boyfriend is unemployed, and of poor health
  • May speak to my lawyer about him applying for SSI...
  • I am still not on disability
  • I filed a new application
  • Because of my previous application failing, I cannot get SSDI, only SSI
  • And that's if I'm approved.
  • Our apartment is a complete mess due to the above
  • Basic household tasks get done, at best, once a month...

  • Quality of Life

I am also in "need" of some additional things; these are things that are not so much necessary for my health and safety, but more things to restore some quality of life changes that have been absent. Primarily…

Whilst these do not take precedence, I none the less would be happier if I could resume playing PC & Switch games, and especially Mario Kart with my friends. I was really looking forward to trying out Pauline and that new Chomp Mii…

I have had my cousin’s blue Game Boy Camera for years and the save file has been corrupted like super long ago. Most of the pictures are copies of the first one, and none of them can be deleted, they just pop back up after the animation.

I exctracted it, and read it with an old software from 1998 and… the overwritten pictures are all there. Memories from my cousins. Some people I don’t know.

I can share 4 those pics though.

The problem is really just the save file. I erased it and also flashed it with a save file from a working unit and it works fine. And the broken save file behaves the same on the known good unit and in an emulator. I loaded it in a hex editor and it looks kinda garbled, it’s weird.

Since the lens on that old game boy camera is scuffed and you can’t take pictures with it anymore, I’ll swap the working lens from the other unit I have (since it’s less sentimental as I got it later) and salvage the remaining parts to get this mod: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EccVHo-pDGI
