random q for game devs, is there a name for when you tease a location that's hard to get to, like a hidden spot that's off the obvious path? eg by having a cave or ridge be visible far away on a cliffside

(extremely not my area of expertise, and terminology often mutates from studio to studio, buuut) by default I might call these things breadcrumbs? the more "normal" use of the term would be for things like pickups or packs of enemies, used as a little reward for going the intended way, but a landmark works just as well as an implied/intrinsic reward, yeah?

hm it might! im thinking about how games that require going back and 100%ing a certain number of levels to advance in the plot (a recent example being neon white) will throw in a lot of cues to point you to many of these that would be otherwise out of the player's way
