There is a degree to which I think the character design in this show feels like throwing spaghetti at a wall. I think there are a lot of designs where I don't think it works well, but every once in a while it produces some perfect weirdo that I like a lot.

the show absolutely feels spaghetti-ful; it succeeds (so far?) insofar as there's ample freaks stirred together in a tidal wave of nobodies. I don't love that the one female character so far has just been someone to ogle

One of my favorite reoccurring things in HXH is that when a weirdo shows up you have no clue if they are going to die in 1-2 episodes or become an important character with an emotional arc.
