I have been Ship-Of-Theseus-ing the same computer since 2012 and everytime I open it up it feels so bad. Its like a lego set I'm afraid of building, and every time I put parts in I think that I'm breaking it.
as a Guy Who Breaks Stuff By Touching It, I've been deeply paranoid about doing this sort of thing for a long time, and I'm proud of myself for completing the build, but -- I think the way that computers are put together is stupid and unnecessarily complicated
If I didn't end up with my hands looking like I got in a fight with a bobcat at the end of it I'd be more into hardware, I think.
Though the last one I built wasn't too bad, lots of plastic clippy things instead of sharp steel edges. Maybe I can afford better cases now than 20 years ago.
thought I'd replied to this and I didn't and you're right, it's obnoxious. I have a work machine whose case is half the size of my home computer and rooting around in there is like trying to surgery on a grape with a hammer
