I swapped mine for some Cherry MX Blues to get that really satisfying reheating experience.. Plus a custom keycap for the popcorn button

And some clip or something on mine has broken on the front casing where that keypad sits, so every time I push one of those buttons, the entire panel squarshes inwards a few millimeters in a very unsatisfying way
OR. If you're lucky, you get a touchpad about as responsive as a barely functioning convenience store kiosk. The options are truly endless 🩷
Honestly, kitchens are probably the one place where you can kinda justify membrane keypads (b/c spill resistance + cheap), so it doesn't surprise me too much that they've held on.
that said my current microwave has a rotary encoder dial and i love that aspect enough to tolerate its lack of beeper mute and busted turntable.
Yeah, mine is right above my range, so it's subject to a lot of steam, smoke, grease and sauce splatters. I appreciate that I can just wipe it clean.
Literally one company makes all the microwaves sold in the US to spec for brands to slap their names on. Not sure about other countries. My new one doesn't have a membrane keypad but it's like... doesn't act like a phone's touch screen, so I'm not sure what it is, other than mediocre.
The pasonic ones apparently at least come from a different factory. Not sure if I'd say they are any better though

the best microwaves are the generic white ones supermarkets sell for £40. two dials: power and time. i don’t know why anyone would touch the first one
Low power is good for heating frozen foods and leftovers. It causes the microwave emitter to "pulse" at shorter intervals, which gives heat time to radiate through your food instead of burning some spots and leaving others frozen.
mine's got two knobs, and instead of the loud beep it has a cute little bell
