Conas a deirtear “is fear mé” sa aimsir chaite? ”Ba fear mé”? “Ba í mise fear”? ”Bhí mé i mo fhear”?

well "fear" is different from "fearr", but from "is fear mé" maybe you mean "fearr"? if it's in the context of liking something, then it is. in that case the term would probably "maith" or "mhaith", depending, since "fearr" is the version you use in present tense like your example.
if you mean "fear", well it depends on the context, but from my sleuthing on focloir.ie, maybe it's fearadh? but that's in the context of a verb you're doing, "ag fearadh" is used to mean grant, provide, pour out
hope this helps. it's been fucking forever since i studied irish but i wanna get back into it at some point soon.
ah, sorry for the misunderstanding.
(bit of a dumb idea not to consider, since like, same.)
Sorry for the curt reply BTW I hope I didn’t come off as annoyed or anything. I am just extremely tired this morning and brain is only able do do the basics. Thanks very much for a thoughful reply even if we had wires crossed lmao. I was doing night classes before lockdown but never got back to it and want to make the effort again.
B'fhear mé
Fear ab ea mé
Bhí mé i m'fhear
Those are all fine by the Caighdeán Oifigiúil, you'd probably occasionally hear it in speech as Ba fear mé as well because leniting f is sometimes not done for clarity.
To be clear I meant “fear” as in “I was a man”. Should fear really be lenited? Does ba/ab generally cause that in nouns? I wouldn’t have thought it would be lenited here other than after mo, which yeah I forgot would be “m’fhear” in that case.
yep, according to 7.2.1 B (c)
Leanann séimhiú foirmeacha na copaile san aimsir chaite, san aimsir ghnáthchaite agus sa mhodh coinníollach. Úsáidtear ba nó b’ san aimsir chaite, san aimsir ghnáthchaite nó sa mhodh coinníollach mar seo a leanas:
Cuirtear b’ roimh ghuta nó roimh fh- + guta sna cásanna seo a leanas:
(i) ainmfhocail, e.g., B’innealtóir maith í;
Actually coming back to this again would “B’fhear mé” not become “Ab fhear mé”?
No, sorry for the late response, but "ab" is only used (in the standard) in places where there's a relative clause, like where you might have "a + ba".
But you wouldn't start a sentence with it
