[back to overview]
Second round of weapon-focused character builds! This time: LIGHTNING!!!

This is also the most recent character i've finished off, just last week, for the final achievement(s) of the base game. I'm not sure if they will add any for dlc, it doesn't seem like they did for Dark Souls 3 but you never know.

This character also has a bit of a "story" to him. It's very vague and nebulous, more of a "thematic progression" than anything:
Beginning as a soldier using storm-aligned ashes of war, before transitioning to lightning in Leyndell, picking up Gransax's Bolt as my main weapon, and then diving into frenzy incantations at the end after the Fire Giant.

When i was theorycrafting this build, i wanted to focus heavily on dexterity, and use many lightning elemental weapons, as you might guess. But, as time went on, i found myself missing spellcasting more and more, eventually taking a break for a long while to play a pure sorcerer instead which was very fun.
I think i also kinda got sick of the weapons i was using before that break, burned myself out on fighting the Dragonkin Soldier in the Lake of Rot, just kinda not having a good time in general.

When i got back to it, those annoyances had mostly faded, though i still chose to start using incantations. More lightning to be had, after all! And i do enjoy lightning spear and honed bolt for ranged options.

The switch over to frenzy spells was less of a hard line and more like adding them into my existing rotation, going back and forth with lightning quite often as needs be. I also picked up the Dragon King's Cragblade which i enjoyed quite a bit, though i didn't have the time to fully learn how to use its weapon skill.

Gransax's Bolt turned out to be a bit less fun than i was hoping, while it IS a great sniper rifle i think i'm just generally not that into the standard spear moveset. It's a bit samey, especially without the swiping heavy attacks of the partisan/spiked/death ritual spear, but i did end up using it exclusively for Godfrey, who i beat on my own with no summons of any kind! That was a cool challenge, really flexing my memorization skills and getting in The Zone.
I had previously watched a friend of mine fighting him and i learned a lot from seeing the tricks they used to dodge his attacks, which was partly what made me want to try it myself.

Fun fact: This character was originally named Storm Knight, but then i remembered how aggressive the text filtering is in these games. Not that i tend to do coop very often, but it was kind of a boring name anyway so eh.

Fashion:
Leyndell Soldier Helm / Erdtree Surcoat / Tree Sentinel Gauntlets and Greaves
Wielding Gransax's Bolt and the Golden Beast Crest Shield
This was the "before" fashion, very gold themed. I want to pick up some of the Haligtree Soldier set if i come back to this character.

Black Hood / Fingerprint Armor / Scaled Gauntlets and Greaves
Wielding Vyke's War Spear and the Sun Realm shield
And this is the "After" fashion, a much darker look to match with the descent into madness theme.
